I am so happy to finally see the sun this morning after Typhoon Glenda. Up until today, I am still loaded with a lot of clean-ups because of the typhoon. Seeing the rising sun early this morning and feeling its warmth suddenly reminded me that it's a great opportunity to have our beds and pillows exposed to the sun. I never thought I would miss the sun this much.
Glenda (Rammasun - international name) made things a bit harder for us because my husband and I volunteered to promote a basketball event here in Batangas City. This program is under Athletes in Action. Selected AIA basketball stars playing in the US NCAA Basketball Division 1 are scheduled to come to the Philippines for a basketball tour, and our province is favored to be part of this tour. Power outages caused us many problems in preparing for the event, especially since I have been handling a lot of paperwork regarding this matter. The typhoon left us appreciative and thankful that there were no major damages to our family, and we learned many lessons after the typhoon.
During the days when the power supply was not yet restored due to the damaged electricity line in our area, my children learned to play chess and sungka because they could not use the computer; at night, we played shadow stories. These are some of the activities we enjoyed doing for the first time as a family. This gave my husband and me a chance to explain to our children that even though we went through a tough typhoon, almost without sleep, and then experienced a blackout for nearly four days, we should still think of other people who might not have food to eat, a house to sleep in, or dry clothes to wear because of the typhoon's damage. We should pray for them and avoid pitying ourselves or complaining about what we lack. In the midst of these situations, we will still thank God.
I am also happy that the appearance of the sun today means a great day tomorrow. This is because the big basketball event is happening tomorrow. Our hard work will pay off.
