Throw Back Thursday - From Employee to Employer

I was an employee for several years before starting my own business. This chapter of my life is one I like to reminisce about -  my days working at Pioneer Clinical Laboratory. I took the Medical Technology Board just a few months after graduating and was blessed to pass the Licensure Examination on my first attempt. A few days after receiving the results, I was uncertain whether I should look for a job, and the other question was where I would go to work, but definitely not abroad. You might wonder what prevents me from working outside the country. I was a PAMET-Safeguard Scholar, and one of the agreements was that I needed to serve my country for at least two years. This is also why I felt compelled to seek a position as a Registered Medical Technologist- a sign of my gratitude and sincere appreciation for the privileges I had, and now it's my time to give back to the organization and to my country.

Reflecting back, I remember that I didn't have a hard time job hunting.  As soon as the results were released, many employers called me to submit my resume and work for them.  To make a long story short, I chose Pioneer Laboratory because some of my classmates were already working there.  Others say I could have found a better job applying in hospitals, where opportunities are greater, but I believe it was God's purpose for me to be there.

In my college days, we were trained to work professionally with high standards and values. I am proud to have been a part of PCLI's team. It is this belief and these moral standards about work that made me comfortable working at the company . I see how PCLI continues its progress, maintaining its growth and turning its visions into reality. I witnessed how the founders worked hard for their success, adding their moral values of providing reliable and honest laboratory results, which I believe is why God has blessed them and will keep their business growing.

Now, I look up to my bosses as inspirations that drive me to work hard in the business I am currently in. I can admit and honestly say it is easier to be an employee. Why? Because my finances are secured monthly during my days of employment. It's different when you're an employer and building the foundations of a business. Yes, it may sound like a huge sacrifice and harder work. What makes me love my current role as an employer is seeing the bigger picture where many people benefit from the services provided by the business, including offering employment to many. I can't help but think of the people who depend on us.

I want my children  to learn what it's like to be a Medical Technologist (now referred to as Medical Laboratory Scientists), which is why I seize every opportunity to introduce  them to the laboratory where I used to work. I aim for them to understand the value of work and quality service, as this is vital in every business, regardless of its type. I hope they learn to serve people by giving their best - one of the keys to success.

My experience as an employee gives me the heart to understand my employees now because I have been in their shoes. I am thankful to my previous employers who became a part of my life and taught me valuable lessons and experiences (they may not even know). This is a reason  why I now look back. Looking back helps me find my way to move forward and reach my goals.
